Levon Karapetyan was born on December 26, 1989, in Yerevan, Armenia, into a family of musicians. He began playing the piano at the age of six.

From 1999 to 2004, he studied at the Alexey Ekimyan Music School. From 2004 to 2007, he continued his studies at the Alexander Spendiaryan Music School. Between 2007 and 2013, Levon pursued his higher education at the Komitas Yerevan State Conservatory under the guidance of Professor Sergey Kechek, an Honored Artist of the Republic of Armenia, earning both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees.

From 2014 to 2016, he attended professional development courses at the Music and Dance Academy of Strasbourg, studying with Professors Amy Lin and Laurent Cabasso. Between 2014 and 2017, Levon was a member of  Les Virtuoses du Cœur, performing concerts in the Alsace region, including Strasbourg. In 2017, after winning a regional competition in Alsace, he performed in Paris in February of that year.

In 2014, he participated in masterclasses with the prominent pianist Boris Berman, followed by sessions in April–May 2015 with the renowned French pianist Bernard d’Ascoli. In 2018, he studied with pianist Albert Mamriev, and in 2019, he took masterclasses with pianist Armen Babakhanian.

Levon also explored jazz, studying jazz music, harmony, and performance with the well-known Armenian vibraphonist Tigran Peshtmajian.

Many respected musicians and composers have praised his talent, including Edward Mirzoyan, Zohrab Paremuzyan, Robert Amirkhanyan, Hasmik Papian, musicologist Armen Budaghyan, and others.

His first CD was released in 2010 in the United States. Since 2011, Levon Karapetyan has been a member of the International Charity Foundation named after Vladimir Spivakov.

Levon Karapetyan gave his first concert at the age of eleven and has since built a distinguished career as a pianist, performing extensively in Armenia and abroad.

His early promise was recognized through numerous national and international accolades. In 2004, he became a certified participant in the national competition named after Vladimir Horowitz, and in 2005, he won the National Competition after Alexander Spendiaryan. His international experience began in 2007 as a participant in the “Flame” International Competition in Paris. His growing reputation earned him the prestigious Presidential Award of the Republic of Armenia for Young Performers in 2013. He went on to participate in the International Piano Competition of Lyon, France, in both 2015 and 2017, and 2019, he was a diploma recipient at the XV Huesca International Piano Competition.

Levon’s orchestral collaborations began with a notable performance of Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 19 in 2007, with the Armenian State Philharmonic Orchestra under the baton of Ruben Asatryan. He went on to perform Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 3 twice with the St. Petersburg Academic Symphony Orchestra in 2010 and 2011, conducted by Mikhail Tatarnikov. In 2012, he reprised the same concerto with the Alexander Spendiaryan State Academic Opera and Ballet Orchestra, led by Karen Durgaryan.

In 2016, Levon was featured in two major performances: he played Grieg’s Piano Concerto with the Mariinsky Theatre Symphony Orchestra conducted by Mikhail Sinkevich, followed by a performance of Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 19 with the St. Petersburg Academic Symphony Orchestra, this time with Aleksandr Dmitriyev. The following year, in 2017, he interpreted Aram Khachaturian’s Piano Concerto with the Armenian State Symphony, conducted by Sergey Smbatyan.

Most recently, in 2024, Levon performed with the Karlovy Vary Symphony Orchestra in Prague, Czech Republic, under the direction of Ondřej Vrabec — a performance that marked yet another milestone in his international career.

Levon Karapetyan’s repertoire includes works by Bach, Beethoven, Tchaikovsky, Schubert, Chopin, Rachmaninoff, Scriabin, Khachaturian, and many others.

In October–November 2023, he professionally recorded a selection of his repertoire in high-quality audio and video at the Komitas Museum-Institute’s Concert Hall in Yerevan.
